Cornelius Tulloch selected as artist laureate for the Bakehouse x Cité internationale des arts residency
Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami, and the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, are pleased to announce the selection of Cornelius Tulloch as the 2024 Laureate to benefit from a prestigious two-month residency in Paris this upcoming May and June 2024.

Clara Toro Unveils “Wynwood Norte: Un barrio de Miami”
Miami-based artist Clara Toro unveils the second iteration of her long-term project, Wynwood Norte: Un barrio de Miami, a captivating site-specific installation at Roberto Clemente Park. A community celebration is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Roberto Clemente Park, presented with the support of Bakehouse Art Complex, Bank of America, City of Miami and District 5 Commissioner Christine King, and Oolite Arts.
Artist Highlight: Beatriz Chachamovits
Meet Beatriz Chachamovits, a multimedia artist and educator whose practice spotlights critical challenges within coral reefs and marine ecosystems at large. Through ceramic sculpture and site-specific installation work, she immerses her audience in these environments, addressing issues ranging from mass bleaching to plastic pollution.

Artist Highlight: Michelle Lisa Polissaint
Meet artist Michelle Lisa Polissaint, a multimedia artist whose work ranges from photography to textile. Michelle's work is largely grounded in themes of memory and nostalgia. The act of making is deeply linked to the artist’s personal experiences and functions as a means of interrogating not only her sense of self, but how this “self” exists and operates in the larger world. For Michelle, personal memories are a fruitful point of entry for discussing broader societal issues.

Donor Highlight: Maurice Habif
Maurice Habif has been a member of Bakehouse’s Board of Directors for the past two years, playing an essential role in guiding the organization's plans for its future campus. He is deeply passionate about Bakehouse's mission to promote the arts in Miami. Maurice resides in Coral Gables with his wife, Ava, their son, Conrad, and two dogs. Both he and his wife have been generous supporters of Bakehouse since his appointment to the Board. Maurice serves as the Managing Director in the Miami office of JLL Capital Markets, focusing on Multi-Housing and Land Investment Advisory.
Applications are open for Bakehouse x Cité internationale des arts Residency!
Applications are open through Monday, December 18, 2023 to Bakehouse artists for a two-month residency (May 3rd — June 27, 2024) at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France.
Artist Highlight: Mark Russell
Meet artist and arts educator Mark Russell, who has been visiting with students from Jose de Diego Middle School just across the street from Bakehouse for years. Last summer, Mark was selected to participate in the Summer Open program and had dedicated space and time to focus on his practice. Using a blend of alcohol markers, pen, and ink to create portraits inspired by human life and experiences, Mark intimately captures the culture of his time.
