Bakehouse Art Complex is pleased to welcome Joseph Schwarzkopf to its Board of Directors at a pivotal moment in the organization’s growth. Joseph is CEO of Uribe Schwarzkopf, a 53-year-old family business based in Quito that has been dedicated to design and architecture shaping the positive development of Ecuador.

Luján Candria, Beatriz Chachamovits, Amanda Linares, Ingrid Schindall, Monica Sorelle, and Cornelius Tulloch are among this year’s Ellies Creator Award winners. Bakehouse was pleased to welcome visiting artist and architect Matthew Dutton, a graduate student at the University of Miami School of Architecture whose work moves between material research, installation, and the built environment. His thesis project, Brick Has Memory, reimagines the brick not as a passive building unit, but as an active witness—one that holds traces of labor, production, and the social and political histories embedded in its use.

Bakehouse Art Complex and Cité internationale des arts, Paris are pleased to announce Francisco Maso as the fourth Artist Laureate to benefit from a prestigious two-month residency in Paris this upcoming May and June 2026.

Bakehouse is proud to share recent news from resident artist Joel Gaitan, whose work is currently on view at Galerie Lefebvre et Fils in Paris, France, as part of a solo exhibition titled Solo Quedan Los Recuerdos. The exhibition explores life, death, and the afterlife while engaging themes of identity, sexuality, and ancestral lineage.

Bakehouse is thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generosity of Mathew Whitman Lazenby and facilitated by Nik Massey, Whitman Family Development has made a significant donation enabling the purchase of a new, large professional-grade kiln for our growing community of ceramic artists.

Bakehouse Art Complex is excited to announce the appointment of Gabriel Jean-Paul Soomar as Senior Curatorial Fellow for Music Direction and Sonic Practice. In this honorary role, Soomar will provide conceptual guidance and curatorial insight at the intersection of music, sound, visual art, architecture, and public space.

Bakehouse Art Complex announced today the acquisition of a strategically critical adjacent property at 533 NW 32 Street, expanding its campus and accelerating its vision to create long-term permanent cultural infrastructure for Miami’s artists, cultural workers, and communities.

JP, as he is known, brings deep expertise in construction, real estate development, and community partnerships– support that will be vital as we advance our future campus redevelopment, ensuring our goals are achievable and financially viable.

Applications are open from Monday, November 17, 2025 through Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Bakehouse artists will have an opportunity to participate in a two-month residency (May 4–June 26, 2026) at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France.
