Summer Open Program
Bakehouse Art Complex is pleased to share its yearly cohorts of the annual Summer Open program. For twelve weeks, Bakehouse provides eight Miami-based artists with free workspace to support their practices selected artist, an opportunity to foster relationships, and engage with the organization’s community of artists.
Participants will be utilizing the organization’s largest exhibition space, the Audrey Love Gallery, as a communal artist studio and will have full access to shared art-making facilities, which include a ceramics studio and kilns, a B/W darkroom, a digital print lab, a printmaking room, a woodworking facility, a welding facility, a communal library and media room, a communal kitchen, free parking on campus, and free internet.
The program will also offer opportunities for creative and professional development through studio visits, networking events, and more. The program is designed to support the practices of local artists by providing them with critical infrastructure and an opportunity to foster relationships and engage with the organization’s community of artists.
Summer Open was conceived by Bakehouse Art Complex as a way to extend the use of its 2.3-acre campus to more artists. As opportunities for free studio space are exceedingly rare in Miami, this program helps fulfill a significant need for artists in the area. The initiative expands on the organization’s mission to address the need for affordable workspace for artists in Miami’s urban core.

As a Summer Open resident, I had access to a dedicated workspace and Bakehouse’s shared art-making facilities, which enabled me to create new work. At the same time, I built a meaningful community alongside my fellow summer residents. By the end of the residency, I had completed a body of work, laid the groundwork for new projects, formed lasting connections, and gained a deeper understanding of my practice that continues to evolve today.
