Donor Highlight: Maurice Habif

Where would you like to see Bakehouse in three years?

I would love to see the Bakehouse building with a completed renovation, ready to be a home for artists for a hundred more years to come!\

What is your wish for Bakehouse as it embarks on its next generation for 21st-century artmaking?

I simply wish that Bakehouse continues to have the resources to serve as an incubator for the amazing artistic talent we have in Miami. I hope that it can grow and be a space for even more artists to use for many years to come.

Maurice Habif has been a member of Bakehouse’s Board of Directors for the past two years, playing an essential role in guiding the organization's plans for its future campus. He is deeply passionate about Bakehouse's mission to promote the arts in Miami. Maurice resides in Coral Gables with his wife, Ava, their son, Conrad, and two dogs. Both he and his wife have been generous supporters of Bakehouse since his appointment to the Board. Maurice serves as the Managing Director in the Miami office of JLL Capital Markets, focusing on Multi-Housing and Land Investment Advisory.

Why is it important to support artists and the organizations that serve them?

It is incredibly important to support the arts because it is this aspect of culture, in my opinion, that really makes us human and unites us as people. There are basic needs like food and shelter that must be met, of course, but once those are covered, it is the cultural arts that blossom and truly bring societies together. The arts have always been part of the fabric of any world-class city, and we are all focused on seeing Miami become one of them.

What inspires you about Bakehouse?

Every time I step foot in Bakehouse I am awed by the energy and spirit of collaboration between all of the artists (and Bookleggers!). It is so amazing to see such a diverse group of people united by the goal of creating art and how they work alongside each other to do so.

Why should someone donate to Bakehouse?

Bakehouse is one of the few organizations here that really focuses on being a platform for local, Miami-based artists to showcase their work. There are so many established names coming to Miami from all over the world, it is of the utmost importance to support our local talent and help them thrive.
