Artist News: June 2025

This spring, Bakehouse artist Luján Candria completed The ANT Project residency in Coyoacán, Mexico, culminating in an open studio presentation of her project Herbario Íntimo. Her work, inspired by local flora, explored the relationship between botany, memory, and the creative process.

Luján is also a recent recipient of the Artist Access Grant from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and FUNDarte, as part of the program’s spring cycle.

Bakehouse artist Maritza Caneca is participating in the group exhibition Pool Party: The Pool in American Art, on view at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando, FL from June 6 through September 28, 2025.

Maritza also has a solo exhibition currently on view at Brisa Galeria in Lisbon, Portugal. Entitled PISCINA COMO PAISAGEM SENSÍVEL / SWIMMING POOL AS A SENSITIVE LANDSCAPE, the show is on view through June 17.

Summer Open artist Noah Cribb is featured in the group exhibition Seeing Red, now on view at Fredric Snitzer Gallery through July 19. Be sure to check it out and see Noah’s work alongside other compelling voices in contemporary art.

Bakehouse artist Jenna Efrein has been awarded a Corral and Cathers Artist Fund grant from the Coral Gables Community Foundation. She has also received a partial partner scholarship to attend a 10-day workshop at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington, studying under artist Daniel Clayman.

Summer Open artist Isabella Marie Garcia recently curated the exhibition Calendars & Gradation Systems, a solo presentation of work by Fernando Garcia. Originally on view from May 31 to June 27, the exhibition has been extended through July 6.

Bakehouse artist Sterling Rook has been selected as one of the 2025/2026 Fellows for Artists in Residence in the Everglades (AIRIE). Celebrating its 25th anniversary, AIRIE brings artists to Everglades National Park to explore the intersections of art, environment, and community. Sterling joins a dynamic cohort of multidisciplinary artists engaging with one of South Florida’s most iconic and ecologically significant landscapes.
