Development Officer Position

The Development Officer reports to and works closely with the Executive Director and a small Bakehouse team to advance the institution’s fundraising goals and help build meaningful relationships with donors and supporters. This position serves as a critical liaison between the organization and its funders—government, foundation, and individual donors. As such, this individual is primarily responsible for the grant and donor management processes, including researching, preparing, writing, submitting, monitoring, tracking, and reporting existing and annual grants and identifying strategies for new funding opportunities. 

He/she/they also provide project management leadership for institutional development initiatives. This includes spearheading the annual fundraiser, driving an annual giving campaign, and a limited number of smaller donor cultivation and stewardship events. This position requires strong writing and communication skills, knowledge of data management and analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills, with an emphasis on outcome measurement.

Essential duties and responsibilities 

  • Research and identify sources of support and proactively seek new funding sources.

  • Develop grant proposals based on the Bakehouse’s operating and program funding needs and as aligned with the criteria of funding sources.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals, including assembling research, data collection, writing, budget information, and reporting.

  • Prepare grants proposals, online applications, letters of intent, concept papers, reports, follow-up letters, thank you letters, and other donor and grant-related documents as needed.

  • Provide grant editorial assistance and application guidance to other team members.

  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for revenue generation and long-term plans for revenue growth.

  • Identify grant/donation reporting requirements and coordinate the execution and submission of interim and final grant tracking reports for budget and grantor management purposes.

  • Maintain the grants management calendar and prepare for bi-weekly internal grants management reports.

  • Assist ED with overall fundraising efforts and development goals, including fundraising events, projects, and programs.

  • Develop and maintain the donor management system.

  • Collect, analyze, and report relevant data to various stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ comprehensive experience in a non-profit development operation, preferably in an art museum or cultural institution.

  • Knowledge of different fundraising strategies and techniques for corporate, foundation, and government sources, including grant writing, major gifts, planned giving, and donor cultivation.

  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and reporting for government, foundation, and private donations.

  • Experience in conceptualizing and managing special fundraising events, projects, and programs, including planning, implementing, and evaluating. 

  • Expertise in the management, use of, and content analysis of CRM databases and integrations (such as Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or Bloomerang) to manage donor information and track fundraising progress.

  • Demonstrated creativity as a systems-thinker who can conceptualize, design, and build out systems and processes for all related job functions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, stakeholders, and partners, both externally and internally, to effectively represent Bakehouse to its multiple audiences and funders, new and prospective.

  • Willingness to work occasional weeknight and weekend hours for events as needed. Some travel, both local and regional, may also be required. Flexibility is key.

Communications Associate Position

Bakehouse Art Complex is seeking a part-time Communications Assistant, starting at 20/hours a week, with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate is adaptable, committed, and interested in working in a not-for-profit arts organization. The Communications Assistant is responsible for leading the organization’s internal and external communications efforts, which include monthly newsletters, website management, and social media.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee marketing and communications strategies and software to create and distribute marketing and communications materials that promote the Bakehouse and its mission 

  • Manage the organization’s social media channels and develop a regular content schedule utilizing best practices

  • Oversee e-mail marketing activities including managing the creation of the organization’s monthly newsletter

  • Regularly engage with Bakehouse artists to promote their practices and major activities hosted outside of the organization

  • Maintain the organization’s website and overall web presence

  • Draft and disseminate press releases related to organizational initiatives

  • Manage press inquiries and maintain press archive

  • Ensure all marketing and communications collateral are consistent with overall brand and messaging

Required Experience

  • 1 – 2 years of experience working in an administrative capacity

  • 1 – 2 years of experience in an art museum, gallery, arts non-profit organization, or arts production (i.e. art fairs)

  • Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Suites (eg. Google Analytics, Google Docs) and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok

  • Basics of market research, including data analysis and reporting on social media metrics

  • Knowledge of various marketing and social media strategies and tactics.

  • Knowledge of social media management platforms (eg. Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and email marketing platforms (eg. Mailchimp)
