"Much of my work alludes to water: the colors, motion and tropical atmosphere of the ocean and bay here in Miami are inspirational to my senses. Therefore I try to capture a sense of the feeling and motion of water, while concentrating on composition, texture and color.
Since pastels are opaque and smooth, the challenge is also to create an interesting surface through various techniques such as lifting off, layering and under-painting. Ultimately I’m interested in drawing the viewer into the texture, depth, detail and lush colors of the artwork rather than eliciting a direct interpretation to a scene."
