LUCKY US? PRE-ELECTION ART THERAPY
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Bakehouse Art Complex is seeking applications for our Annual Fundraising Event Exhibitions

On view October 28 – November 4, 2016

Lucky US? at the Audrey Love Gallery

I Don’t Have a Pot to Piss In at the (newly inaugurated) Ceramics Workshop

Lucky You! has been the signature fundraising event for the Bakehouse Art Complex since 2007. With a twist on its name, this year’s fundraiser draws on the political culture of the 2016 US presidential election through political art, political cartoons and other surprises. The Audrey Love gallery will exhibit curated works for auction sourced from BAC Resident Artists and beyond to inspire visitors and guests to hedge their bets with raffle tickets, all benefitting the BAC. The Iowa State Fair, where the road to the White House begins every four years, informs the food and beverage on offer that evening. The dress is festive or funerary – voter’s choice!

Installed in the Audrey Love Gallery, this show will be comprised of a wide array of two-dimensional works which communicate experiences around the 2016 Presidential Election. Content of the show is informed by humor, while still addressing social, cultural and political matters of contemporary relevance.

EXHIBITION: I Don’t Have A Pot To Piss In
To be “piss poor” was once a popular phrase used to describe a very poor person who could not even afford a pot for the family to collect urine, and then sell it to a tannery – they used it to color animal skins. In the context of the show, the title suggests a satirical take on the surreal, deeply contrasted stands taken by the main political parties and followers in this political election that may have left us all bewildered. This show will be comprised of a collection of pots ¬– be them utilitarian or not ¬– that will reveal a great amount of creativity and experimentation and exhibited in the newly inaugurated Ceramics Workshop.
