Mission Statement
The Miart Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization founded in 2004, is an advanced visual arts education program that incorporates skills training, professional career training, and exhibition program (Omiart I, II, and II) and a lecture program dedicated to elevating public awareness of the transformative powers of the visual arts. It is in out intention to enrich contemporary visual arts in the Miami and foster the development of the "Miami Renaissance".
Goals and Objectives
In August 2007, the Miart Foundation and the Bakehouse Art Complex in Wynwood (established in 1982) formed an association for the purpose of conducting Miart's adult art education program, enhancing the mission of the Bakehouse to be the premier venue in Miami for mid-career and emerging artists. The Miart Foundation will focus on artistic skills training (i.e., a non-degree post-graduate program preparing artists for a success in the professional art world). Advanced training will be offered in painting, drawing, photography, video arts and installation/new media. Seminars will be offered in real-life skills not offered in art schools but necessary to professional success in the visual arts: Public Relations & Marketing, Critical Discourse & Public Speaking, Basic Accounts & Business and other relevant topics. The Lecture program will include lectures by internally renowned artists, art professionals and art collectors and will be free and open to the public.
Courses
Studio A: Simplified Figure DrawingObjective: This course will focus on understanding and mastering the basic structure, articulation and expressiveness of the human body.
Studio B: PhotographyObjective: Beginning photography will introduce the artist to the history and philosophical intent of photography; introductory techniques in black and white photography, slide lectures, field assignments, aesthetics, conceptual analysis and dark room processes will be explored.
Studio C: Oil Painting: Secrets of the Renaissance Masters for Contemporary Painters.Objective: This course will focus on comprehensive technical approaches to oil painting, preparation of the shape and texture of the canvas, conceptual content, theme and intent, composition, applied color theory, various methods for the physical application of paint to the surface (layering, glazing, Scumbling, Sgraffitti, Impasto etc.), enhancement of drawing skills, finishing techniques and critical discourse.
