for Art Seekers & Learners
The Bakehouse offers foundation art courses for adults in a variety of media including, drawing, fiber and textiles, clay, photography, welding and painting. Each class is taught by a professional artist and class sizes are always restricted to ensure one-on-one instruction.
Designed for those applying to arts colleges, magnet and charter schools, this program provides middle and high school students with individualized instruction to help them build their portfolios. This series is built around students’ specific needs, interests and strengths. Each student leaves the class with a completed portfolio and receives an individual portfolio evaluation with their instructor.
Artist Residencies in Schools
These residencies, provided in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, consist of 10-week, site-specific arts enrichment experiences in five schools in the immediate vicinity of the Bakehouse. This program places students in a collaborative, mentor-driven environment with Bakehouse artists, who are creative professionals working in their neighborhood, but whom they may not otherwiseencounter. Students are actively engaged in the creative process and develop a sense of ownership and pride in the school-specific projects they take an active part in creating. Many transfer these skills to other subject areas, allowing for improved academic achievement and motivation to learn.
Bakehouse Internships are designed to provide high school and college students with opportunities to gain hands-on professional insight and experience, supplemented by individual mentorship. As a working artist facility, the Bakehouse also provides opportunities to collaborate with artists. Internships are offered in studio art, preparator and curatorial, development, programs, marketing/public relations, patron services/membership, and special events.
Through its active partnerships, the Bakehouse extends its reach, utilizes resources efficiently, and produces programs of greater impact. Current partners include FIU College of Architecture + The Arts; the Wynwood Arts District Association; De la Cruz Collection; Miami-Dade County Public Schools; New World School of the Arts; Florida Grand Opera; Arts & Business Council; The New Tropic; Douglas Elliman Real Estate; The Miami Foundation; ICA Miami; and more.
Open Figure Drawing
Every first Sunday of the month, the Bakehouse offers one of Miami's only regular opportunities outside the art school setting to do live figure drawing. Participants can sit and sketch with a live model.
