Juried Studio Residency Program

The Bakehouse Art Complex offers affordable studios, shared workshop spaces, and artist advancement among other amenities, to professional emerging and mid-career artists of local, national or international origin.

The Studio Residency Program offers 62 indoor and outdoor studios at below-market prices starting at $13.20/ft² on our 2.3 acre campus. Sizes vary and cost is calculated with respect to additional amenities such as natural light and running water. Studio rents range from $305/month - $1315/month. 

Shared Artist Facilities include a clean room with extractor; print room with two printing presses, resin box for aquatint, workspace and fumes extractor; woodshop with a table saw, band saw, drill press, belt sander and work benches; a darkroom with 9 enlargers to make silver gelatin prints in a range of formats from 35mm to 8x10”; and a ceramics facility with six throwing wheels, a glaze room, and a kiln room with electric and manual kilns, a gas kiln for soda and reduction firings, a front-loading electric high-fire kiln, and a small test electric kiln. We offer free WiFi across our campus and secure parking.

Resident Artists’ work is eligible to be installed in the Bakehouse common spaces and galleries. We list every artist on this website with URL links to their proprietary websites. Networking and professional development opportunities include Open Studio evenings, exhibition receptions, and organized studio visits with recognized art professionals. Information on exhibition and further professional opportunities at Bakehouse and beyond are regularly communicated. Our facilities are open 24/7 to our resident artists.

Short-Term Studio Residency Program

Also a juried admission process, the short-term residency is for visiting artists who may spend the winters in our hospitable tropical climate or for artists who are not ready to make a yearly commitment to the residency program. Leases are offered for three-six months and can be renewed as a yearly lease only.

The short-term program's amenities and scope is otherwise identical to the Studio Residency Program (described at left).

Associate Artist Program

The Bakehouse Art Complex’s Associate Artist Program is a membership program for professional artists who are seeking wider exposure as well as working facilities. Ideal candidates are talented emerging and mid-career artists who are committed to their work and who add value to our dynamic, collaborative community of over 60 working professionals.

Associate Artists enjoy access to our facilities which include a clean room with extractor; print room with two printing presses, resin box for aquatint, workspace and fumes extractor; woodshop with a table saw, band saw, drill press, belt sander and work benches; a darkroom with 9 enlargers to make silver gelatin prints in a range of formats from 35mm to 8x10”; and a ceramics facility with six throwing wheels, a glaze room, and a kiln room with electric and manual kilns, a gas kiln for soda and reduction firings, a front-loading electric high-fire kiln, and a small test electric kiln.
