Andrea was a professional ballerina, who danced lead roles throughout the US and Europe as a soloist with the Miami City Ballet & Christopher Wheeldon’s Morphoses. Now, as a 2015 summa cum laude graduate from NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology, she is embarking on a new adventure as a fashion designer. Andrea has been honored with a Critic’s Award for Outstanding Design & is also a YMA scholarship recipient. Recently, Andrea was chosen to create 2 original garments that were exhibited in Paris at Le Musée des Arts Decoratifs, in collaboration with Les Métiers d’Arts CHANEL.
Through new, inventive textiles & sculptural silhouettes, my aim is to offer a unique perspective on fashion & design for today. Rather than being driven by mainstream trends & mass-market ideals, my creations focus on slow, handcrafted methods while nurturing an individual spirit. The Japanese principle of fukinsei – controlling the balance of composition through the natural beauty of asymmetry & irregularity – is a strong element to my work. Each original garment I create is individually dyed, embellished, or felted by hand & will be produced in exclusive, numbered, limited editions. In this approach, the textiles, as well as the garments they become, are unique and timeless works of art. They are not just pieces to wear, but also pieces to collect. I embrace technical precision, color, & the boldness of avant-garde.
